Kumoya

Japanese Kitchen + Bar Kumo, Denver, CO

Light as a cloud, dark as the valley

A writer named Patrick Hearn aka Koizumi Yakumo, travelled on a magazine assignment to Japan, and never came back. He brought Japanese culture to the west, hailed as a guardian of tradition. This is our love letter to Japan.

The interiors feature a carefully curated selection of architectural elements, original design materials, and handcrafted host station, lighting installations, furniture and booths. The space is based off of four key icons of the Kumoya love letter to Japan - the boat, the knife, the cloud and the cherry blossom. Throughout the clean lines and contrasting white walls and panels with black trim are a modern interpretation of a shoji screen, the colors of each room gradate from light to dark.
